What weapons did Israel use to block Iran’s attack?

To combat threats from ballistic missiles, drones, and other aerial attacks, Israel has a multi-layered air defense system in place. Israel’s air defense capabilities are primarily composed of the following:
- Iron Dome: Designed to demolish artillery shells and short-range rockets fired up to 70 kilometers (43 miles) away. Iron Dome detects approaching threats using radar detection and tracking systems, then fires interceptor missiles to destroy them before they reach their targets.
- David’s Sling: This system is capable of intercepting medium-to-long-range rockets and cruise missiles up to 300 kilometers (186 miles) in length. On top of what Iron Dome can do, David’s Sling adds another degree of defense against threats that might elude shorter-range interception.
- Arrow Missile Defense System: Developed in cooperation with the US, the Arrow system is intended to intercept ballistic missiles outside the atmosphere. It has several variations, including the Arrow 2, Arrow 3, and the upcoming Arrow 4 system. As a strategic deterrent against possible threats from Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal, Arrow can defend against intermediate-range ballistic missiles.
- The Patriot missile system, initially developed by the United States, aids Israel in its defense against drones, ballistic missiles, and aircraft. It provides an extra layer of defense against external threats in addition to Israel’s internal air defense.
- To disrupt and neutralize enemy communications, radar, and missile guidance systems, Israel also employs highly developed electronic warfare capabilities. Israel can now detect, follow, and intercept incoming threats with greater accuracy thanks to these capabilities.
To provide all-encompassing defense against a variety of aerial threats, including those posed by Iran’s ballistic missiles and drones, Israel integrates these disparate systems into a tiered defense architecture. Israel demonstrated the effectiveness of this integrated air defense network during the recently publicized attack by successfully intercepting the great majority of incoming projectiles.
